Gandalf is a wizard known as Gandalf the Grey. Gandalf is very powerful and wise, and he has many powers. He has control over his powers and uses them for good not evil. Gandalf was a good friend of Bilbo's father. He has lovely firework displays and is a very mysterious person; the Hobbits don't love him but they do find him quite an enjoyable person. Gandalf helps the dwarves find a burglar (the Hobbit- Bilbo) for their adventure. He always seems to stick up for the Hobbit when the dwarves are tired of him, and don't want him to be there.
Gandalf helps the dwarves on their adventures in many different ways. He helps them find their way and tells them the right path to take. When he leaves them, he shows up in times of trouble and makes sure that the dwarves' adventure continues safely.
Gandalf always seems to know when the dwarves and the Hobbit get into trouble.
(Chapter 2) As Gandalf goes ahead in the road and leaves the dwarves and hobbit, they find a group of trolls. They get themselves into trouble and just at the right time Gandalf shows up and saves them. This is the first time Gandalf showed up at the right time to save the dwarves and Hobbit.
(Chapter 7)Before the dwarves and the Hobbit go into the forest they stop at Beorn's house. Beorn was a shape changer, and friends with the animals. Gandalf told Beorn their story, and did it in a way that kept Beorn interested in the story. Beorn ended up giving them a place to stay and rest for a few days. The Hobbit and dwarves leave once Beorn has given them supplies and ponies they could take to the edge of the forest. This is another example of when Gandalf helped out the dwarves and Hobbit.
Gandalf said that he had some buisness to take care of in the South( in chapter 7); very mysterious. He leaves before the dwarves and Hobbit enter the forest. He shows up at the end of the book in time for the war.
Wise Quotes by Gandalf "I have chosen Mr. Baggins and that ought to be enough for all of you. If I say he is a Burglar, a Burglar he is, or will be when the time comes. There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself."
"Do we really have to go through [Mirkwod]?" groaned the hobbit. "Yes, you do!" said the wizard, "if you want to get to the other side. You must either go through or give up your quest. There are no safe paths in this part of the world."
Gandalf Representaion......
Gandalf (in this book) symbolizes God in a way. He helps us in our struggles and gets us out of tight situations. Like God he never stays the whole time and doesn't baby you along. Gandalf lets Bilbo become strong on his own. God lets the struggles and hard times develop our character and make us become closer to him.
